Bharti Airtel raises Rs 25000 crore in the 4G war with Jio

Bharti Airtel raises Rs. 25,000 crore in the 4G war with Reliance Jio in the financial year 18 years.

Airtel 3G is likely to shut down its 3G network and reform the spectrum associated with it for 4G services.

Telecom company Bharti Airtel said on Wednesday that it will invest Rs 25,000 crore to expand its 4G network during the current financial year, which had previously announced Rs 20,000 crore.
"Keeping in mind the data explosion in India ... in the case of coverage, to accelerate our 4G roll and create additional capabilities in the existing geographical areas .... Initial guidelines for our capex forecast of Rs 20,000 crore for the year Raised from Rs 25,000 crore, "Bharti Airtel Chief Financial Officer Nilangejan Roy said during an income call on Wednesday.
The company also said that it is possible to shut down its 3G network in 3-4 years and reform the spectrum associated with it for 4G services.
"We are not spending any money on around 3g. We think in the next 3-4 years, so we have a possibility of 3G network which actually stops faster than the 2G network because In India, 50 per cent of the phones are sent to India, which are feature phones, "Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO, India and South Asia, Bharti Airtel said during the earnings call.
He said that the company is investing in 4G technology to create more data capacity in the network.
The company will use 2100 MHz band for 4G services, which is used for 3G services.
"Where else we have a 3G or a third carrier, the flip of the software, you get incremental capacity on 3G, most of the spectrum will eventually go towards 4G, for which we will need radio units," Vithal said.
He said that in some telecom circles, the company has set up a modern 3G device which can support 4G services, but the 3G service will need to be replaced for the initially deployed devices.
